Accepting the grace of the father of oriental missionaries; His grace V Benedict, in the valley of shadows, Vallambroza V. John Gulbert, the Personification (synonym) of prayer and patience, established the Vallambrosan, Benediction congregation. The congregation that imbibed prayer, learning, meditation, contemplation and hardwork as missions in life, founded a society on honesty, purity of life and fraternity, exhibited its existence in the form of St. Kuriakose Sr. Sec. School. The school is set up in the picturesque village of Pazhuthuruth, at Mariamala 5 km off historical town of Kaduthuruthy.

Through alley of history
An English medium nursery school had been functioning under the management of sisters of St. Joseph’s order. Under the special interests and instructions of the Bishop of Kottayam diocese, Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry, Vallambrosan Congregation, in 1993 adopted this school, to serve the interests of the poor in providing ‘Value based education’, and re-christened as SKPS. Rev. Dr. Jacob Velliyan was entrusted the responsibility as the Manager and (late) Shri. T.K Joseph, as the principal of the school, that commenced functioning formally on 7th June 1993. In the beginning the strength of students was mere 72 in four standards. The church’s building itself was the venue of the LP sector of school, under the Vallambrosan Congregation’. However nursery section had still been under the supervision of the St. Josephian sisters.

Stairs of Growth
To establish an inter religious dialogue centre at Mariamala was a dream project of the abbot general of Vallombrosan congregation Italy, Abbot general Rev. Fr. Lorenso Russo. The dawn of SKPS too was a part of that. In the school’s infancy, Dr. Alex Chetiyath, Dr. Jacob Kollamparambil and Fr. Alex Aakkaparambil, in particular, held its hands with their presence and uninterrupted support. Succeeding years witnessed unprecedented growth and popularity to the school. A long list of eminent teachers catapulted the school to glory. The strength of students was on an upward graph. The services of a fleet of school buses enhanced conveyance facilities from all corners. The coveted ‘CBSE aVliation’ was accorded to the school under the stewardship of then Principal Dr. Babu Kochamkunnel, At the same time, permission too was granted to take up secondary school. Daily assemblies and various activities there in, Athletic and cultural competitions, interschool competitions were all his brain children. Prof. V.J. Joseph Vattaikunnel, who took over the mantles of Principal did everything to nurture the all round growth of the school. The superlative testimonial to the enviable growth of the school remained the cent-percent success of the maiden tenth batch in 1999. The same year is yet another mile stone in the astronomical rise of the school. The school graduated itself to higher secondary and commencement of timely computer classes were highlights of that year. Besides, separate labs were also set up for each of the science subject. One should not lose sight of the fact that computers were not all that popular those days, underlines the prophetic and prognostic capabilities of the school management. The computer lab and higher secondary wing of the school complex were dedicated to the students by none other than Ms. Usha Narayanan, the first lady of the nation. By that time the strength of students and teachers had swollen to 950 and 41 respectively and the school had become an icon of an educational institution of excellence. By millennium school had carved a niche in cultural and physical fields and started standing first, very often in regional as well as state levels. Those achievements have still been defended, is a matter of proud and appreciation. The school can boast of the activities of as many as 15 clubs to meet the varied aVnity and taste of students. When Shri. John Munjanatt was the principal the school secured 100 percent pass for its first ever +2 batch students.

At the Pinnacle of Glory
It was in 2000, Fr. Tomy Thervalakattayil took over the reins of SKPS in the capacity of the manager. Since then Father Tomy has put in tireless services for the growth of the school. The idea of a “School magazine” as a forum to unfold the latent and creative talents of the students was implemented by him. Separate and exclusive classes for school band, dance, yoga, karate and painting were made a reality. Another turning point of the school was the taking over of Principal's chair by Shri. K A. Francis, who was a popular oVce bearer of Sahodaya, an association for CBSE Schools. He saw to that coaching and competitions have been held in Table Tennis, Badminton, Skating, Karate etc. at inter school level. The regional youth festival conducted by school stood a proof to the organizational capability and spirit of competition. The teams of SKPS easily established supremacy over rivals in Margam kali, one act play dance etc. at state level too. The years that followed have been known for academic excellence too.

In 2013, when Fr. Tomy Thervalakattayil vacated the chair, Fr. Shaji Padinjarekunnel and subsequently Fr. Sinto Njarolickal shouldered the responsibilities of the manager. In the meanwhile Fr. Joby Pannoorayil took over as assistant manager. SKPS witnessed formation of Badminton, Volleyball, Football and Basketball teams and their triumphant run. In 2016, Father Ajeesh Kunjarakattu assumed the chair of Sixth principal of the school. A host of charity activities were launched under his initiative. Nallapadam, a charity mission hand in hand with Malayala Manorama stands a tall example. In this aspect, Fr. Ajeesh focuses on moulding a society of children with a sense of social commitment. Construction of toilets and houses did to orphanages aids to ailing people, financial assistance to hospitalized poor and awareness classes are a few sparkling examples SKPS cities to the public. To add spiritual ambience, the school conducts daily Japamala (rosary), monthly masses on first Fridays and a number of similar activities. Science and computer labs with state-of-art facilities, language labs par excellence, chapel, hostel facilities for children of either gender, canteen and coaching for sports and games have all been added to the facilities of the school Civil service coaching classes, Tally, foundation and advance entrance coaching have also been incorporated of late. In the Jubilee year besides 29 students securing A+ in all subjects in 10 standard, 4 students from +2 scored emulated them. The school magazine won first at state level is a matter of great pride. School did extremely well in different dimensions like sports, arts and physical education as well. The alumni of the school have risen to sky high levels and are occupants of enviable positions, yet finding pleasure beyond words to stay in contact perennially with their alma mater.
